Limerence is the imagination run wild, filling the impossible gaps of love
The sugar rush and empty calories of love’s nourishment
Lust is the vulture of love—a starved and skeletal predator
bred only of hunger that waits and devours for this conceptual survival
Its possession swallows us and gives birth to obsessive assumption
And a single sided delusion of ecstasy before the belly ache
Yet in my desire for you—
Though my eyes go wide at the power of its pull—
Love lives
In the purity of my intention
In the caught chances of shared glances
In the corners of your smile reaching over and raising mine
And your intense contemplative nature urging me to dive deep to solve your riddles and your crimes
There is love
I will find ways outside the privacy of our bed
Where we are free to bare ourselves
I will listen to the silent plea of needs in the signs of trouble on your face
I will offer gentleness in and outside of the palm of my hands and graze of my fingers
I will offer a warm place to lay and call home in and outside my body
There is no room for delusion in my grown up love for you
No rosy lenses to fog up the view
Acceptance is not without critical choice, but to be aware
To look over every tree in the forest with familiarity
To know where we stand and to tend with proper care
I know the resurgence of feeling makes your heart beat faster
Blood flowing to parts unknown and old ground laid to rest
Bringing attention back to wounds and the discomfort of being alive
But if you fall I will be there to catch you.
If we fall we may learn to fly
One foot on the ground and one in the sky
Love grants the wish to take us higher
Where utopia stands a chance to become real
If we can sidestep the expectation of fantasy come to life and appreciate with truer eyes
If we fall we may learn to fly
Hand in hand
Two feet on the ground and two in the sky
