Spotlight

The Table

Acrylic on 35 by 47 inch wood

Created in Mexico City, July 2023

in conversation with a series of domestic pieces

The poem accompanying this piece reads:

Once I saw my body as a cage

But now I see it as a vase

Yes in essence a soul contained

Where fragility is sanctity

And transparency a gauge

I see now how the waters turn

And a care that must be kept

Polished, not solely plucked, by some other’s willed attempt

There is a cycle in which I run

Response to responsibility: I accept

I fill my vase with cold water and fresh flowers

Smooth the corners and set the plates

When all is done I no longer ask

What do you bring to the table?

A silent joy takes place
